Full Moon Release of 2020

lunar yoga yoga

I love the ceremony of full moon and new moon rituals and it sends a little shiver of excitement down my spine to know that the last full moon of 2020 falls towards the end of the month, on December 29th, just before we enter in to a new year.

And what a year it has been. Some of us may be longing to see the back of 2020, it’s certainly forced so much to the surface to be healed and brought its own unique challenges for everyone, no matter how this year particularly has affected you.

I read recently that the main thing that separates those of us who suffer from hardships and those who can smile and grow through them is purely our perception and expectation. It’s all in our mind. If we believe that hard things give us opportunities to learn and grow then we will. If we believe that we are victims without choice then we get ourselves stuck.

The combination of the full moon and the end of the year give us a powerful opportunity to let go of what you don’t want in order to create space for what you do want your life in 2021, with new hope and a renewed belief that we are gifted these experiences to learn and grow from.

December is traditionally such a busy time of year, this month we focus on quick and easy practices you can sprinkle in to your month or use as a ritual to harness the power of the full moon.

A practice for your mind

Grab a piece of paper and start writing. Write down the disappointments and challenges that you have faced this year, or those from the past that you are still holding on to and wish to release ready to start fresh. Burn the paper outside as you visualise letting go of them all as they burn away with the flame, freeing you to welcome joy and abundance in your life.

A practice for your body

The lunar equivalent of sun salutations, a few rounds of slow paced moon salutations (Chandra Namaskar) is the perfect mindful movement practice to release tension in the body and bring calm and focus. The cycle of poses focus on hip openers and moving with your breath, bringing your mind and body back in harmony.

A practice for your soul

One of the best ways to let go of hurt and disappointment is to shift your focus to love, gratitude and forgiveness. You are a being of light, love and joy, take a few minutes to tap in to that by as you close your eyes, focussing your attention inward to your heart centre.

Repeat the following loving kindness mantra to yourself as you visualise shining your love from your heart, out to the world, sending the mantra and love to all beings on the planet. If there is a particular situation you are wishing to let go of, imagine sending your love to all involved. Repeat this practice any time you wish to shift from anger in to love.

May you be healthy
May you be happy
May you be peaceful
May you be safe
May you be free

Full moon blessings to you all x
